$400-million True North Square hopes to be downtown meeting place

Winnipeg-based True North Sports & Entertainment Limited made a bold splash recently when it broke ground on an ambitious $400-million development in the heart of downtown Winnipeg's sports, hospitality, and entertainment district (SHED). True North Square will consist of four distinct towers and an outdoor public plaza suited to all kinds of activities and gatherings in all seasons. The new True North Square Sutton Place Hotel and Residency is also being built.

North and south will meet at Winnipeg Art Gallery's Inuit Art Centre

The federal government committed $15 million in funding for the Inuit Art Centre, adding to the $5 million already committed to the project by the City of Winnipeg. The $65-million centre will be a four-level, 40,000-square-foot facility connecting people from the North and South to meet, learn and create together. A first of its kind in the world, it will be a community hub for exhibitions and programs, research and learning, studio practice and art-making.

Amazon Canada invested in more than 234,000 sq. ft. of space over two locations in Winnipeg. Amazon’s delivery stations power the last mile of its order process and help speed up deliveries for customers. Packages are transported to delivery stations via trailer trucks from Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers. Packages are then sorted, packed and loaded into delivery vehicles and shipped to homes in our communities. The online retailer is offering hundreds of jobs with extensive benefits.
